Chained Lock

Standard

Why in the world did she take a picture of a chain lock?

To most this is a dumb picture. To me, it’s a glimpse of a life I’ll never know.

When I see chain locks like this, it makes me think of apartments.

Naturally when I was younger, I always thought about what life would be like when I was older. I thought of where I would live and what kind of career I would have. I thought of living in Los Angeles or in New York City as I studied and worked. I was going to act, sing, write…I was going to do it all!

Life didn’t turn out like I thought it would. I’m not angry, but of course I will always think about that young girl and those huge dreams. It’s a bittersweet thing.

It also reminds me of how incredibly blessed I am. I’ve never lived alone. Sure, living alone at some point would probably have been a journey like no other and I would have learned things about myself I never knew, but the reality of it is that I’ve always been able to feel safe. I went from living with my parents to living with my husband and I wouldn’t change ANYTHING about living with my husband.

Our journey together is priceless.
